CSST, not CCST

CSST stands for corrugated stainless steel tubing. It is a gas-piping system that uses corrugated stainless tubing, typically with a protective jacket, and its specified fittings. Gastite’s Canadian product information uses this exact name.

Identify the system before changing it

Have the installer identify the manufacturer and product from accessible markings and documentation. Do not assume different brands, fitting families or jacket types are interchangeable. A flexible appliance connector at a stove is not automatically the same product as building gas piping.

Discuss bonding and protection

Bonding is an important part of the assessment. Technical Safety BC explains that CSST requirements depend on the piping system and its certification, and that the relevant electrical work must be performed by a licensed electrical contractor. Ask who is responsible for confirming the applicable manufacturer and electrical requirements.

Choose a route around real conditions

Ask about access, support, physical protection, transitions and suitability for the proposed environment. Flexibility does not make every route acceptable. Share the complete appliance list and any renovation drawings so the gas-system design can be assessed together.

Common questions

Is it CSST or CCST?

CSST: corrugated stainless steel tubing. That is the term to use when asking about this type of flexible gas-piping system.

Does every type have identical bonding requirements?

No. Identify the product and certification, then have the applicable requirements checked against current rules and manufacturer instructions. Do not select a bonding method from jacket colour alone.
