What should you arrange before changing the kitchen or patio?
Confirm the appliance, the proposed location, existing gas equipment and who handles the permitted gas work. Bring the renovation layout to Robert before cabinetry, flooring or hardscape decisions make the route difficult to change.
A stove move is a route-planning conversation
List the current and proposed locations, model information, timing and access below or behind the kitchen. Identify work being done by other trades and who will restore finishes. Read the gas-stove relocation guide; do not assume a longer flexible appliance connector is the solution to a room-layout change.
A patio outlet needs an actual appliance brief
For a BBQ, fire table or outdoor kitchen, provide the intended appliance fuel and manufacturer details. Ask about the compatible connection and complete gas-supply assessment. A quick-connect box does not establish capacity for every future appliance or make a propane appliance suitable for natural gas. Start with BBQ boxes and quick disconnects.
Tell the contractor what is being removed
If an old range or fireplace is leaving, identify whether its pipework will remain, be altered or be retired. Agree on the scope, documentation and finishing responsibilities. Read about gas-line decommissioning. Technical Safety BC’s gas alteration guidance covers permitting for additions, replacements and removals.
Give the location context that matters
For a Surrey project, identify separate occupants and the person approving access. For a Langley enquiry, say City or Township and whether the work involves a detached building. For a Coquitlam townhouse, bring strata conditions for exterior work. The exact property and work determine the approvals; a city name alone does not settle them.
Sketch once, coordinate the team
Use the gas-route sketch planner to show existing and proposed appliances, branch points and measured sections. Describe existing versus proposed work in the labels and notes. Keep unknown measurements blank. Share the exported brief with Robert alongside your renovation drawings, then agree on the professional assessment and any related electrical or other trade work.
Meet Robert Hamilton and discuss your renovation scope. The sketch prepares the conversation; it does not authorize a gas alteration or confirm pipe size.
