Does an existing gas meter mean there is capacity for another appliance?
No. A new appliance needs an assessment of its documented gas demand and pressure requirements together with the existing appliances, utility supply, regulator, meter and downstream pipework. A meter label or an existing outdoor outlet cannot answer the whole question.
Bring gas input, not the headline product rating
For a generator, electrical output in kilowatts is different from its fuel input. For a tankless water heater, advertised hot-water performance does not specify the existing pipe’s capacity. Supply the exact proposed model and manufacturer documents. Compare our generator planning page and tankless water-heater guide.
Include every relevant existing appliance
Record furnaces, boilers, ranges, fireplaces, water heaters and outdoor equipment. Identify additions and removals separately. Ask the professional to determine how the loads and operating requirements apply to the design. Do not subtract an appliance from your list just because you expect rarely to use it.
Describe the actual route and constraints
Include branches, vertical travel, material transitions and known regulators in the LMR planning sketch. Note underground or inaccessible sections instead of estimating them as confirmed measurements. Read about underground gas-line planning before excavation or landscape work. The planner highlights route information but does not assess pressure loss or meter capacity.
Property-specific examples to raise with Robert
For a West Vancouver property, show the proposed equipment position and the full route. For Richmond or Delta, describe site access and any known drainage or exposure concerns without assuming the address has a particular hazard. For an Abbotsford outbuilding, establish whether a suitable gas supply reaches that building at all.
Coordinate equipment, gas and electrical decisions
A generator project also needs a qualified electrical assessment and transfer arrangement. Explore the 15-model Cat generator guide for product references and installer questions, then confirm the current configuration with a dealer. For gas-supply changes, ask the team to identify utility coordination and permit responsibilities.
